Henry Cheng and Katherine Ip are Cheng's parents, in addition to Sonia Cheng and Brian Cheng, who are his two younger siblings. After graduating from Taft, Cheng enrolled at Harvard. With honors, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) from Harvard University. Cheng's professional development
Early in his career, Cheng worked as a banker at Goldman Sachs and UBS. In order to work for his family's Chow Tai Fook Holdings, Cheng left UBS AG in 2002. He was appointed Executive Director of Chow Tai Fook Jewelry Group in 2002. A member of the board of directors, Cheng was appointed executive director of New World Development in March 2007. He joined New World Development in 2012 and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in the same year.
Later, in 2015, he was appointed executive vice president of NWD. He serves on the boards of New World Development, Giordano International, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and New Century Healthcare Holding Company, among others. He is the chairman of the China Young Leaders Foundation. Furthermore, he is also the executive director of Chow Tai Fook Jewelry. He founded K11, which has a portfolio of projects in the commercial, cultural and residential sectors.
